WHAT IS A BROW LIFT?

Sagging, drooping eyebrows cause heaviness around the eyes and even make them close a bit. They can also make someone look constantly sad, tired, and unhappy. When the brow is lifted, the tired, sad look may disappear completely and often the entire face brightens up.

Brow lifts can be performed in different ways. New technology like the endoscope has made this procedure less invasive than it was in the past. An endoscope is a thin tube with a camera on the end that sends live video footage to a viewing screen that the surgeon watches while performing surgery.

This viewing device enables the surgeon to see the internal structures he will be working on without the need to create large, invasive incisions. Rather than making one long incision, as in a traditional brow lift, an endoscopic brow lift allows the surgeon to make several short incisions instead (each less than an inch). These small incisions are made along the scalp and are easily concealed by the hair.

Much like many of our procedures, the first step to getting a Brow Lift in Austin is realistic expectations about what the procedure can and can’t do for your appearance. The process does not require any needs in advance, though we recommend protection from the sun in the days leading up. WHAT TO EXPECT ON THE DAY OF A BROW LIFT

Our Austin brow lift procedures are done on an outpatient basis, with local anesthesia and sedation.

Once the incisions have been made, the surgeon will insert the endoscope through one of the incisions, providing a clear picture of the muscles and tissue beneath the skin. Using a separate instrument that is inserted through a different incision, the surgeon will then lift the forehead skin and begin altering or removing the underlying tissue and muscle that is causing the problem. The eyebrows may also be lightly lifted and secured to a higher position using sutures beneath the skin’s surface.

After tightening the underlying tissue and altering the muscles as needed, the surgeon will then remove the necessary excess skin. The incisions are then carefully closed. Every effort is made to keep the scars as minimal as possible. Since the incisions are hidden along or above the hairline, they are usually very inconspicuous.

Our surgeons work very carefully to conservatively and strategically tighten and lift this region. The goal of a forehead lift procedure is always to make the patient look like a more rested and youthful version of themselves, not an entirely different person. The procedure itself can take anywhere from one to two hours.

BROW LIFT RECOVERY

After surgery, you will be able to return home, but you should consider taking it easy for the next few days. Any pain or discomfort you experience can usually be controlled with medication. The sutures come out within a week, and the bruising and swelling will subside within five to ten days. You can generally return to work in seven to ten days, but you should avoid more strenuous activity for several more weeks. You may experience some numbness, but this almost always subsides within a few weeks.

You should be able to enjoy your results for years, especially if there has been any type of muscle alteration. Most of our patients can expect to get five to ten years out of a single surgery, and if you wish to maintain your appearance, the procedure can be repeated as needed.
